Memo from Msgr. Raun - Friday, May 8th, 2020
My dear family,
Greetings in the Risen Lord!
REASONS TO HOPE IN GOD'S GOODNESS
God will protect you when you feel insecure!
“Your rod and Your staff—they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). A shepherd used a rod and staff to help protect the sheep. God protects us when we feel powerless against outside forces. He gives us assurance of our future during any trouble.
THE SACRAMENTS AND OUR DESIRE FOR THEM: I have had more than a few conversations - heartbreaking conversations - with wonderful devote people who so desire to receive Holy Communion. Even more heartbreaking is talking to folk who have relatives who are dying, but a priest cannot get to them to give the last sacraments. Truly, how heartbreaking.
In the face of this, we must remember a few great truths. The Sacraments are seven great gifts from Jesus Christ Himself. They are the ordinary way that He gives us His grace - His very Life within us. Our Lord is always faithful to the Sacraments. But He is not limited to the Sacraments.
God never asks the impossible. If we truly desire the grace of Holy Communion, but it is impossible for us to receive Communion, He will give us the grace of Holy Communion. (That is what the Act of Spiritual Communion is all about.)If a person truly desires the grace of Confession and the Anointing of the Sick (the "Last Sacraments"), but it is impossible for a priest to get to them, God will give them the grace of these Sacraments.
Our God is not a tricky lawyer trying to find some technicality to refuse us grace, but our loving and perfect Father who sent His Son to die that we might have grace. If a person has true sorrow for their sins, and living faith in Jesus Christ, our Father will refuse them nothing. When circumstances makes the Sacraments impossible, God makes the grace possible. As our Lord says in this coming Sunday's Gospel: "Let not your hearts be troubled."
THE CENSUS : Well, the quarantine has made the Census very difficult. The Census is mandated by our Constitution, and it is our civic duty to be counted. I did it on line and it was very easy. If you have not been counted yet, all you have to do is go to 2020Census.gov or call 844-330-2020.·
CONGRATULATIONS to those reborn in Baptism these past few weeks: Michaele Montgomery,Lucia Montgomery,Phillip Matuszewski-Peer,Yasmine Villanueva,Veronica Basden and Richard Coffman. May God bless them and their families !
HOLINESS TIP: I came across "The Pandemic Rosary". It's simple. As you say your daily Rosary, offer each Mystery for a different intention:
1st Mystery -For the suffering and dying
2nd Mystery- For medical personnel and all who place themselves in danger to serve us
3rd Mystery - for wisdom for our government leaders and scientists
4th Mystery - for us to have courage and faith
5th Mystery - for the faithful departed
WE ARE IN THE MONTH OF MAY - PRAY THE ROSARY EVERY DAY!
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:
Until further notice the days of the week are now called thisday, thatday, otherday, someday, yesterday, today and nextday!
- If you thought toilet paper was crazy ... just wait until 300 million people all want a haircut appointment.
OUR PRAYER FOR THE DAY:
Almighty God, who through your only‑begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !
